H-GO lots and homes in Calgary
H-GO is Calgary’s grade-oriented housing district. The City describes it as a district “for residential uses where dwelling units may be attached or stacked within a shared building or cluster of buildings in a form and at a scale that is consistent with low density residential districts.”
Why the count is small
H-GO is the rarest of the three districts the exemption criteria name. It arrives on a parcel through an owner-initiated redesignation far more often than by inheritance, which is why the set turns over slowly and why a parcel carrying it tends to have had somebody work for it. A listing in this district usually comes with a history at the City attached to it.
What the repeal left behind
The repeal of blanket rezoning took effect on August 4 2026, and by the City’s own figure 99 per cent of properties returned to the zoning that applied before it. H-GO is named in the exemption criteria alongside R-CG and R-G. The City’s wording for the first criterion · “Received approval for a permit or subdivision application under R-CG, R-G, or H-GO zoning before the proposed bylaw takes effect.” So an H-GO parcel today either held the district before the citywide rezoning or reached it by a route the bylaw recognises.
