Alura
Alura stands at 1320 1 Street SE, on the Victoria Park side of the Beltline, one block west of Macleod Trail. The height registers file it as Alura at Nuera, because it is the shorter companion to the Nuera tower on the same block, and the two were built by the same developer four years apart.
The building
The tower runs 29 storeys and 110 metres, and it was finished in 2014. It sits on a block that carries four buildings from one developer, between Macleod Trail and 1 Street and between 13 Avenue and 14 Avenue SE, which is an unusually complete piece of single-hand redevelopment for the district. Nuera, its companion on that block, runs 34 storeys and was finished in 2010 at 211 13 Avenue SE. Ground-level frontage runs along 1 Street.
The building holds a fitness centre, a yoga studio, a steam room, and an owner’s lounge. A business centre is available to residents, and the landscaped terrace sits on an elevated podium shared with Nuera, the tower next door.
A concierge works around the clock, and security runs with it. Parking is titled and heated underground, with visitor stalls and bike storage below. Homes take assigned storage lockers. Three high-speed elevators serve the tower, and entry runs on fob access.
What is around it
Central Memorial Park is three blocks west, with the sandstone library at its east end. The Victoria Park and Stampede CTrain station sits four blocks southeast on the Red Line, which has served that platform since the line opened in 1981, and it is the station for Stampede Park and the BMO Centre. Walk north instead and 12 Avenue carries you toward the Beltline's older warehouse stock and the Simmons building beyond it. The 17 Avenue SW retail blocks are three blocks south and one west.
A tower on a block that changed hands all at once reads differently once you know the district's arc, which we set out in Living in Beltline.
