Bella Lusso
Bella Lusso sits at 1000 and 1010 Centre Avenue NE, in Bridgeland, and one name covers two four-storey buildings held around a shared courtyard. Bucci Developments built it and counts 74 homes, and the City permitted it as an apartment and townhouse building together, so a run of the homes meet the ground rather than a corridor. The permit was issued in May 2005 and Bucci dates the finished project to 2006. Two passageways run through to Centre Avenue.
Parking is underground and heated, with visitor stalls and a car wash bay down there. Each home carries a private storage locker. Bicycle storage has its own room and an elevator serves the floors. The courtyard is landscaped, and a good number of the homes carry balconies.
Bucci in Bridgeland
Bucci has built across the inner city for decades, and Bella Lusso sits inside that body of work. Radius is the other Bucci building in this community, seven storeys of concrete at 88 9 Street NE finished in 2019, and Xenex is the Bucci tower in the Beltline, 150 homes finished in 2010. Coupland Kraemer Architects carried Bella Lusso through its development permit and 4C Architecture through the building permit.
What is around it
Centre Avenue runs east and west through Bridgeland, and the community is bounded by the Bow River and Memorial Drive to the south, Edmonton Trail to the west, the escarpment to the north, and Tom Campbell's Hill to the east. Bridgeland and Memorial station opened on the Blue Line in 1985. Murdoch Park is a short walk west, on the ground the Calgary General Hospital held until the implosion of October 4 1998, and the river pathways run below the community along the Bow.
