Bridgeland Crossings I
Bridgeland Crossings stands at 38 9 Street NE, on the bench above the Bow where Bridgeland sits looking back at downtown. The site is a block off 1 Avenue NE, which is the neighbourhood's commercial street, and the building was the first phase of a two-phase development on adjacent parcels.
The building
Eleven storeys carrying 152 homes, completed in 2015 for Apex City Homes and built by ITC Construction Group. The plan wraps close to a full acre of landscaped courtyard, which is the reason the massing is a perimeter block rather than a point tower, and it is why apartments on the inner face look at planting instead of at a neighbouring wall. The development ran in two phases on adjacent parcels, with the second building at 46 9 Street NE.
Indoor amenities include a fitness room with a separate yoga studio, a sports lounge with a movie room, guest suites, and bike storage. The outdoor courtyard carries a garden, barbecues, a putting green, and a dog wash station.
Parking is titled and underground, at one or two stalls to a home, with visitor stalls alongside it, and storage lockers are titled and individual. Cameras cover the parkade and the elevators, and key-fob access runs through the building.
What is around it
The 1 Avenue NE strip is a block away, carrying the bakeries and restaurants Bridgeland is known for. Bridgeland and Memorial CTrain station sits on the Blue Line at the foot of the hill, opened in 1985, one stop from City Hall. The Bow River pathway runs below the escarpment and connects west toward Prince's Island and east across to St Patrick's Island and East Village. Tom Campbell's Hill Natural Park is up the slope behind the neighbourhood, and the view from the top is the reason to make the climb. From the block, 1 Avenue NE runs east toward the neighbourhood's shops and west toward the Edmonton Trail crossing.
Bridgeland changed shape faster than almost any inner-city community over the past decade, and we track that in Living in Bridgeland.
