Calla
Calla stands at 626 14 Avenue SW, on a residential block in the western half of the Beltline, one street north of the 17 Avenue retail run. At twelve storeys it is the shortest of the six buildings Qualex-Landmark put up in this district, and the height was set to sit against the older low-rise stock on the block rather than above it.
The building
Twelve floors carrying 168 homes, finished in 2013. Qualex-Landmark is a Vancouver developer that built close to 1,300 homes across six Calgary towers between 2006 and 2018, all of them in the Beltline, which earned the company the working title of king of the district in the trade press. Calla was the fourth of the six. Stella opened in 2006, Nova in 2008, Luna in 2012, Calla in 2013, Mark on Tenth in 2016, and Park Point in 2018. Twelve storeys makes Calla the shortest of that run, and Park Point at 34 is among the tallest.
Calla runs a concierge service. The building carries a fitness centre with cardio and weight equipment, a yoga room, a sauna, an owners lounge, and a landscaped courtyard, and a guest suite is available for visitors.
Parking is titled and underground, with heated stalls and visitor parking alongside it. Bike storage is provided, and homes carry their own storage lockers.
What is around it
The 17 Avenue SW retail strip is one block south, and it carries the densest run of independent restaurants and shops in the city. Central Memorial Park is four blocks east, with the sandstone library building at its east end. The 4 Street SW and 8 Street SW commercial blocks are both walkable, and the 7 Avenue CTrain platforms sit six blocks north at the top of the Beltline.
Six towers from one developer changed the skyline of this district, and the wider arc sits in Living in Beltline.
