Stella
Stella sits at 1110 11 Street SW, on the Connaught side of the Beltline, and it was the first of three Qualex-Landmark towers built along 12 Avenue. It finished in 2006. Rafii Architects drew it, with BKDI Architects as architect of record and ITC Construction Group as general contractor. The envelope runs prefabricated insulated stucco panels made off site, and the ground floor carries commercial space onto the street.
Residents share a fitness room, a steam room beside it, an owners' lounge, and guest suites. A concierge works the lobby, with security carrying the overnight hours. Parking is titled and underground, with heated stalls. Each home carries an assigned storage locker.
The first of three
Stella came first, Nova followed in 2008, and Luna finished the run in 2012. The three sit side by side along 12 Avenue, joined by a continuous podium of townhomes and commercial space, and the architects count more than 593 homes and more than 1,021 parking stalls across the set. ITC's own project record breaks Stella's 161 homes into seven townhomes, 152 suites and two penthouses, and names the building as the contractor's first Calgary project.
What is around it
The Beltline was assembled in 2003 out of Connaught, laid out in 1905, and Victoria Park, laid out in 1914. The district takes its name from the Calgary Municipal Railway's belt line, Route No. 5, which began running in 1912. Seventeenth Avenue SW is five blocks south. Central Memorial Park sits east along 12 Avenue, 4.68 acres laid out in 1889, carrying the Memorial Park Library at its east end, the two together a National Historic Site of Canada since January 2018. The 7 Avenue corridor is north, where 8 Street SW and 7 Street SW have carried both CTrain lines since 1981.
