Vantage Pointe
Vantage Pointe sits at 1053 10 Street SW, in the Connaught half of the Beltline, and it anchors a full city block. The architect's own record gives it twenty-six storeys and 385 homes over a four-level parkade. S2 Architecture drew it for Pointe of View Developments, with Boucock Craig Wong Architects named on the original development permit. The City issued the building permit in July 2005 and closed it in September 2007. A Co-op food market trades at street level.
Residents share a fitness centre, and bicycle storage is inside. Parking is titled and heated, in an underground parkade with visitor stalls beside it. The electricity is carried in the condominium fee.
A block, rather than a footprint
The development permit lists the site across 1103 to 1135 10 Avenue SW and 1104 to 1130 11 Avenue SW, so the tower and its podium took a run of addresses that used to be separate lots. The land carries Direct Control zoning, and the approved uses run to an apartment building, a retail food store, offices and a liquor store together. A later permit in 2006 added three more homes.
What is around it
Seventeenth Avenue SW is south, the restaurant and retail strip. The warehouse blocks along 10 and 11 Avenues run east from the door, carrying the breweries and the ground-floor kitchens. The Beltline was assembled in 2003 out of Connaught, laid out in 1905, and Victoria Park, laid out in 1914. On the 7 Avenue corridor north, the 10 Street SW platform closed in 2012 and Downtown West and Kerby station opened in its place the same year, carrying the Blue Line.
