Downtown West End
The part of downtown that goes home, on 6 Avenue above the river path.
Four hard edges hold this community, the Bow River north, 9th Street east, the CPR tracks south and 14th Street west, and almost everything inside them arrived after 1999. Of 3,104 assessed parcels, 2,253 date from the 2000s and 609 from the 2010s, with 25 single-family houses left standing among them. The two older survivors carry the district's memory, the 1917 Mewata Armoury and the 1967 Centennial Planetarium, which became the science centre in 1984 and is Contemporary Calgary today. Cowboys Park holds seven hectares in the southwest corner, and the pathway runs the whole northern rim.
