Elbow Park
One of Calgary’s first planned suburbs, laid out along the river bend it is named for.
Freddy Lowes bought and surveyed the land after the City annexed it in 1907, running a wide boulevard along the Elbow and marking out fifty-foot frontages beside it. The first houses went up in 1909, including his own, and building ran hard until the First World War stopped it. What survives is an early-century streetscape under mature elms, much of it renovated, with newer estates filling the gaps. River Park, Stanley Park and Sandy Beach all border the community, and the Glencoe Club sits at its centre.
