Manchester

A 1914 workers' village inside a ring of warehouses, with two train platforms.

Manchester was established in 1914 as a residential community within walking distance of the industrial employment beside it, and the majority of its houses were standing by 1940. It runs from 42 Avenue to 58 Avenue between Macleod Trail and the Canadian Pacific right-of-way, with Manchester Industrial wrapping it on three sides. Two Red Line platforms serve it, the 39 Avenue station inside the community and Chinook at the southern end three blocks from the mall, both opened on May 25 1981. Heritage Calgary added the Edwardian workers' cottages to its inventory in 2014, and they carry no legal protection.
