Spruce Cliff

A shelf above the Bow, on streets named for trees.

Annexed in 1910 and established in 1950, on high ground between Bow Trail and the CPR tracks with the Bow River beyond them. Streets carry tree names, Spruce Drive and Hemlock Crescent among them, and the north end falls away into Edworthy Park, where the Douglas Fir Trail runs the escarpment under firs over four hundred years old. Over half the buildings are condominium or apartment, much of that the Spruce Ridge blocks along Hemlock and Spruce, with detached postwar houses on laneway lots south and west. The Wildflower Arts Centre and the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club share a site on Spruce Drive.
