Avenue West End
Avenue West End sits at 1025 5 Avenue SW, in the Downtown West End, on ground the City licensed as a temporary parking area in 2010. The building permit was issued in October 2014 and closed in June 2018, for 195 homes, with IBI Group named on it. Grosvenor developed it in partnership with the Cressey Development Group. The 2026 assessment roll carries 192 homes at the address, and suite numbering reaches the twenty-third floor.
A porte cochere turns off the street into the lobby, where a concierge works, and residents share a fitness centre. Parking is titled and underground, with heated visitor stalls and a storage locker on the stall.
One tower of a larger approval
The development permit governing the site approves 319 homes and a retail store across fifteen civic addresses, running 1013 to 1039 5 Avenue SW and taking in 508 and 510 10 Street SW. BKDI Architects filed it in May 2008, the City approved it that December, and it was released in December 2013. IBI Group revised it in 2016 at the same count on Direct Control land. The built tower carries 195 of those homes, so the approval still holds the balance.
What is around it
Downtown West and Kerby station is 260 metres southwest on the 7 Avenue corridor, carrying the Blue Line since 2012, and the 8 Street SW platform is 400 metres southeast on both lines. The Bow River pathway is two blocks north past 4 Avenue and runs east toward Prince's Island Park and west toward the Peace Bridge. Three hundred metres west the City dates 701 11 Street SW to 1967, the Centennial Planetarium dome Contemporary Calgary works out of now, and the Mewata Armoury holds the block beyond it from 1918. The community around them is new by downtown standards, since 2,253 of its 3,105 assessed parcels date from the 2000s.
