INK

INK stands at 624 8 Avenue SE, at the eastern end of East Village where the district runs out toward the Elbow River and the Fort Calgary grounds. Battistella Developments built it, which puts it in the same line as Chocolate and Colours in the Beltline, and the interior programme carries the same industrial vocabulary those buildings established.

The building

Fourteen storeys carrying 119 homes, finished in 2018. The unit sizes run small, which is a deliberate position rather than a constraint. Battistella has built its inner-city work around compact plans for close to two decades, and INK sits at the small end even of that range. The Beltline buildings came first, Chocolate in 2006 and Colours in 2009, and INK carried the same programme east into a district that was still being assembled when it opened.

The shared space carries a rooftop terrace with an all-season glass lounge and a gas fireplace. Below grade the parkade holds a secure bike storage room fitted with a repair station and a wash bay, and a pet wash station beside it. Residents also have a tool library to borrow from. Titled underground parking comes with the larger suites and storage lockers are assigned separately. The parkade carries a charging station for electric vehicles.

What is around it

Fort Calgary and the confluence of the Bow and the Elbow are a short walk east. RiverWalk runs along the Bow at the top of the district and continues onto St Patrick's Island. The Central Library and Studio Bell are west along the district's main street, and the Simmons Building sits on the river. City Hall CTrain station carries both lines at the western edge, and 9 Avenue SE runs east from here into Inglewood. Arris opened a few blocks west in 2024 at 39 storeys, which is the range the district moved into after INK.

East Village is the newest of the inner-city districts and the reasons for that are the interesting part, which we set out in Living in East Village.

As of December 2025, INK did not permit short-term rentals. Confirm the current position with the condominium corporation before writing an offer.
