The Riverfront

The Riverfront sits at 333 Riverfront Avenue SE, in East Village, on the bank above the Bow. Trico Homes applied for the building permit in November 1999 and the City issued it seven weeks later, for a 145-home apartment and condominium complex. Trico is named on that permit as both the applicant and the contractor, so the builder carried the file end to end. The permit closed in April 2002. The assessment roll carries the same 145 homes, dates them to 2000 and numbers them across four levels, from 101 to 473.

A low building in a district that went tall

The land runs the Centre City East Village Transition District, the designation written for the area's rebuilding, and four levels is what this corner carried before that plan arrived. Arris opened in the district in 2024 at 39 storeys, which is the range East Village moved into afterwards. The permit file for the building itself records envelope and facade work through the 2010s and 2020s, with Rick Balbi Architect filing the stucco revision in 2009 and the exterior alteration the year after.

What is around it

The Jack and Jean Leslie RiverWalk runs along the Bow past the door and continues east onto St Patrick's Island. Sien Lok Park and Chinatown are three blocks west along the same bank. Olympic Plaza is south, built for the 1988 Winter Olympics and closed for redesign until 2028. City Hall and Bow Valley College station sits beside it and has carried both CTrain lines since 1981. The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, which was Fort Calgary until 2024, is a walk east where the Bow meets the Elbow.
