Mahogany
The Atlas
Your loop of the Mahogany Wetlands starts on Mahogany Boulevard and follows a ring of pathways around about 30 hectares of City parkland. Back at Mahogany Plaza, Soffritto made its pasta in the store that morning, the way it does every day.
Grounds
Mahogany covers about six and a quarter square kilometres in the city's southeast. The City took in the western part in 1983 and the eastern part in 1989, and its community plan of June 2007 records that Council approved the name Mahogany; none of the records we read says where the name came from. Hopewell Residential established the community in the fall of 2008.
The land was farmed before the streets. The plan asked that the Ollerenshaw Ranch homestead, which its vision calls one of the original ranches in the area, be kept and worked into the community, and Section23 Developments now describes the Ollerenshaw Heritage Ranch in Mahogany, about 7 acres beside the school sites, as a site being established to preserve and redevelop the ranch, with a stated vision of a centre for agricultural history, interpretation, education and community gardens. The plan built the rest around two large wetlands, to be reconstructed as habitat and a stormwater facility, and a private man-made lake on land a residents association would own. We read a community plan for who owns what, and here the plan gave the wetlands to the public and the lake to a residents association.
Homes
The City's 2026 assessment roll dates about two thirds of the residential parcels to the 2010s and about three in ten to the years since 2020. Hopewell sells in named collections, from the condominiums and duplexes of the Boulevard Collection to laned and front-garage homes in the Lakeland, lakeside and lakefront estate homes in the Reserve, and waterfront homesites for custom homes on the first of two residential islands. At Westman Village, Jayman BUILT sells condominiums and penthouses with lake and mountain views and leases homes on fixed terms.
The Mahogany Homeowners Association, a society Hopewell set up for residents, is the legal owner of certain community amenities and the land beneath them, and it collects annual encumbrance fees registered on property titles. Mahogany also has a voluntary community association, which grew out of the Copperfield Mahogany Community Association at the end of 2024. We read the encumbrance on the title before an offer, because the fee comes with the address.

Everyday
Lake access is for Mahogany residents only. The developer puts the lake at 63 acres and the homeowners association at about 64, with two private beaches and the 22,000-square-foot Beach Club at the Central Beach site, and in winter the Beach Club keeps skating and cross-country ski tracks around it. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, and motorized boats are not allowed.
The Mahogany Wetlands are public, about 30 hectares of City parkland ringed by pathways, and the developer counts 22 kilometres of paved pathways that connect to the Calgary Greenway. The homeowners association's Alberta Approved farmers' market, open to the public, met Wednesdays at Mahogany Central Green from June 3 to September 23 2026. Village Market on Mahogany Plaza, the first piece planned for the Urban Village, holds a Sobeys licensed since 2017. Mahogany School, a Calgary Board of Education elementary, and Divine Mercy School, an elementary of the Calgary Catholic School District, both sit on Mahogany Boulevard. Designations change year to year, so confirm current catchments with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
Edges
Stoney Trail closes the north, Copperfield across, and 52 Street the west, Auburn Bay across. The south runs along 196 Avenue and then Rangeview Boulevard, Rangeview across both, and 88 Street closes the east. Seton meets Mahogany at a single point, the southwest corner where 52 Street crosses 196 Avenue. The wider map sits on the full neighbourhoods index.
