Copperfield
The Atlas
Your walk starts on Copperpond Circle, where a City park of about eight hectares holds the water the City's map names Copperfield Wetland. A flat trail with boardwalk sections runs through the wetlands, on the Parks Foundation's greenway map. The community association's volunteers flood its outdoor rinks when the season turns.
Grounds
Copperfield covers about 4.6 square kilometres of the city's southeast. 52 Street SE runs its west side and McIvor Boulevard and 130 Avenue SE carry its north, and Stoney Trail wraps the east and the south. The City's Revised East McKenzie Area Structure Plan, adopted on March 12 2001, began as a review of pending applications from Carma Developers and Hopewell Land Corporation, and it names the land east of 52 Street SE as two communities proposed to be called New Brighton and Copperfield, which the plan held as proposed names only. The City's list of subdivision stormwater reports puts Copperfield's first phase on November 2 2001, under a Hopewell company, and its last phases in 2013.
The plan records the wider area as part of an annexation application Daon Development Corporation filed in 1976, with the greater part annexed in 1979, and the land east of 52 Street as grazing and crop land still in its original quarter sections, crossed by rural grid roads. It describes the ground as generally level, from about 1,040 metres in the northwest of East McKenzie to about 1,020 metres in the northeast, with low spots left by glacial meltwater channels and washboard moraines, and it gives the Shepard Slough Complex provincial significance for waterfowl breeding and stopover. We read the wetland map before the street map in Copperfield, since the plan put the community centre site inside its park and wetland system.
Homes
The plan provides for a range of low to medium density housing and sets the community's minimum density at 17.3 units per gross developable hectare. The City's 2026 assessment roll dates Copperfield's residential parcels from 2001 on, with more from the 2010s than from the 2000s and a few hundred from the 2020s. The 2021 census counted 14,095 people in the community's private households, in the City's community profile.
The community association's own page says Copperfield does not have a homeowners' or residents' association, and it adds that the lake in Mahogany, across Stoney Trail, belongs to the Mahogany Homeowners Association and serves Mahogany residents alone. We check a Copperfield listing against the association's page, since the lake next door belongs to Mahogany's owners alone.

Everyday
The community association is registered as the Marquis de Lorne Community Association and goes by the Copperfield Community Association, with a provincial registration of July 11 2005. Its hall at 6 Copperstone Way SE has a main hall licensed for 50 and two meeting rooms, and it rents out for events. Bright Stars Preschool runs on its lower level, and the association's annual general meeting is set there for October 15 2026. The plan placed Copperfield's community centre site inside an integrated park and naturalized wetland system at the centre of the community.
The City's parks file carries a community park of about eight hectares around the Copperfield Wetland, about four hectares of water, on Copperpond Circle and Copperpond Square, and two regional park pieces it names the Copperfield Greenway. The Calgary Co-op at 15566 McIvor Boulevard SE is a gas station. St. Isabella School, a Calgary Catholic School District elementary and junior high at 855 Copperfield Boulevard SE, takes its name from St. Isabella of Portugal, who lived from 1271 to 1336, in the school's own history, and Copperfield School, a Calgary Board of Education elementary, sits at 54 Copperstone Road SE. Designations change year to year, so confirm current catchments with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District. Route 153 carries the community's name, and route 151, the New Brighton Express, stops along McIvor Boulevard.
Edges
52 Street SE runs the west, with McKenzie Towne across it, and McIvor Boulevard carries the north-west, with New Brighton across. 130 Avenue SE and the stretch beside it close the north, facing the East Shepard industrial area. Stoney Trail wraps the east and the south, with Hotchkiss across it on the east and Mahogany across it on the south. The wider map sits on the full neighbourhoods index.
